Watts Towers

Watts TowersThis is one of the great local landmarks in Los Angeles. Created by construction worker Simon Rodia over a period of three decades from 1921 to 1954, the monument consists of scrap metal, pipe structures, bed frames and thousands of seashells. While Rodia’s resourcefulness is amazing, this is truly an impressive piece of work for any artist.

The neighhorhood of Watts, although a culturally enriched area, was the site of riots in both 1965 and 1992 and should be carefully navigated after dark even to this day.
